Private Walking Tour of Athens

We will start our walk from Monastiraki towards the renowned Plaka area. The Plaka is considered one of the oldest Athenian residential areas, with an extremely rich history, located right under the Acropolis hill.

As we make our way up the gentle hill and through the beautiful streets of the Plaka, we will go by the small cafes, the nice outdoor tavernas, and of course the tiny shops with their products on the street and their owners ready to bargain with us!
Our first stop on our walk will be in the area of the Roman agora to view the “Tower of the Winds”; an amazing octagonal marble building that was used to indicate the time and wind direction.

We will continue our walk towards our next stop at one of the oldest Byzantine churches in Athens, the church of “Metamorfosis tou Sotiros”; built during the 11th century, it is truly beautiful, and very much worth a stop.As we leave behind us this wonderful church, we keep walking towards one of the most fascinating neighborhoods of Athens, the Anafiotika. While walking through the narrow little alleys of the Anafiotika, you will forget you‘re in the center of a busy capital and feel as if you have been transported back in time and to an island in the Aegean Sea. The small houses with beautiful flowered balconies seem out of place, but when our guide talks us through the history we understand more about this incredible area and appreciate its’ uniqueness.

Leaving the Anafiotika area we will continue walking around the Acropolis and climb up to the Areopagus. From here we will enjoy the views of the Acropolis, the Ancient Agora and the bustling modern city. Our guide will tell us all about the ancient Athenians and how they took major decisions from the exact same point we’re sitting at!
Leisurely strolling downhill we will make our way back to Monastiraki, towards our drop off point. Reaching the end of our walk and now having a good understanding of the area, the history and culture we can engage our guide in a question and answer session in respect to our walk.
This tour has been designed for you to enjoy a walk around the historical center of Athens and experience the Greek culture. We have tried to combine the historical aspects of the sites with a firsthand view of the way the area has evolved through the centuries and up to today.
